God’s anger is different

Inspired by Novatian from 245 AD and a quick summary of Novatian’s thoughts on God’s anger. He makes a distinction between us and God on the issue of anger and warns us to be careful not to falsely equivocate the two.

It shows that Christians of all ages have had similar struggles with various unpleasant aspects of God’s anger and yet found ways to think about it and rationally decide to trust God as opposed to not.

Trust Jesus over whatever it is you are trusting over Him! He is more worthy of your trust than the others or even of yourself.

There is a reason why Jesus continues to endure! So, long as there is wickedness in the world Jesus will ever be exposed to accusations (love this quote from Origen) but inspite of all the naysaying, doubt and accusations He has inspired the greatest fulfillment of Isaiah 49:6 and Acts 1:6-8 that world history has ever known. You have a non circular historical reason to trust Him over all the naysayers of the past, present and future just like all the prior ages before us did!

Take care for now…and beware of all those false equivocations! Try not to read yourself into the text or human sinful anger but rather try to understand God’s anger as righteous, holy, just and good!

“For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee; Thy reward shall return upon thine own head.” – Obadiah 1:15

“But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” – 2 Peter 3:7-9

“Take a scroll of a book and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah even to this day. It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the adversities which I purpose to bring upon them, that everyone may turn from his evil way, that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.” – Jeremiah 36:2–3

Jesus saves! “And thou shalt call His name Jesus; for He shall save His people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21

To trust or not to trust! God has given us a reason to do so (see above) what is the reason to trust yourself or the naysayers of today over Him?
