“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.” – Paul 50-60 AD Galatians 6:14
The Bible and the majority of Scholars don’t always agree but it appears on the book of Galatians and 6 other Pauline Epistles they are in absolute agreement as far as being written by Paul and very very early on!
“A majority of scholars agree that Galatians was written between the late 40s and early 50s, although some date the original composition to c. 50–60…..the most plausible date for the writing of Galatians is 48 AD.” – wikipedia.
This was new information to me.
Sometimes, from YouTube and similar sources, you get the impression that Paul never even existed or that his writings were composed so long after the events like the events of the gospels. But that’s clearly not the case believed by a majority of scholars with some of Paul’s letters—and with Paul himself.
Paul is a key figure in Christianity, especially when it comes to its rapid spread and ultimate success. So, learning about the strong scholarly consensus on his existence and the early dating of certain letters feels like a significant discovery for me as a Christian.
We don’t need to debate whether scholars accept that Paul existed or that he wrote some of his letters at the time the New Testament suggests. The letter to the Philippians is another text that enjoys broad agreement among scholars as genuinely Pauline and relatively early. It’s really fascinating to catch a glimpse through this letter into what early Pauline Christians were like and how the faith spread so powerfully—through passionate lovers of Jesus Christ and the gospel that even the majority of scholars would agree was an early genuine writing of one of the most famous if not most famous Christian used of God of all time!
“Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)” – Pauline 52-62 AD Philippians 3:17-19
God bless….
