Genesis 1:1-5
“[1] In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. [2] And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. [3] And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. [4] And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. [5] And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”
Now, there are different ways to potentially understand this passage, but let us assume that heaven and earth are created along with light on day one and the days are literal days and a true order of creation events.
This would be a heaven without stars and light as of yet, and this is an earth not yet filled nor habitable and without light but full of water.
And then God brings into existence light but a light before sun, moon, and stars. In science, we have discovered the CMB, which is a light before sun, moon, and stars. So, if this is the same light, then it is interesting that this light is in accordance with what later becomes earth’s ecliptic plane. (Click links below for more on the CMB and what has been dubbed as the AXIS OF EVIL)
So, you can have a light before sun, moon, and stars and a day and a night before sun, moon, and stars since this CMB light is consistent with the earth’s ecliptic plane even before sun, moon, and stars.
So, as much as you see the CMB as evidence of light before star light, then you can see that earth has a day and a night, also before star light.

Lastly, do check out another problem the CMB creates in current cosmology at:
JWST and Hubble agree and that is a major problem
If the CMB is the light God created on Day 1, then it is fascinating all the light the CMB is shedding on problems with man’s naturalistic explanations of the origins of the universe though it was once hailed as it’s chiefest evidence.
When one’s a priori rejects God as even a possible explanation of the originator of the heavens and the earth, then is it any wonder that this one’s a posteriori position can not help but reject God?!
Naturalism – a theory denying that an event or object has a supernatural significance.
