Reading this amazing passage of King David’s confession tonight. A thought struck me and caused me awe. This was written from the heart of David when his sin was found out. We, to this day read this passage with similar sorrow over our sins and set our hopes on God’s amazing mercy to blot out our transgressions.
King David was as real a human being as I am and I just pictured a human from ancient days and me in this modern day relating to the same God relying upon the same mercy to blot out our sins. We are like brothers from a different time zone but connected by these amazing Scriptures preserved all these years by God and others like King David and ourselves.
We (all the people of God) truly are a family of pilgrims and remind me of how connected spiritually the people of God are thruout all the generations. Here are some other verses from that miraculous Bible that was written by the people of God via the Holy Spirit that connects all the people of God as one big family no matter how disconnected this world seems to become against us and our Creator:
”These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: WHEREFORE GOD IS NOT ASHAMED TO BE CALLED THEIR GOD: for he hath prepared for them a city.” – Hebrews 11:13-16
“WHEREFORE GOD IS NOT ASHAMED TO BE CALLED THEIR GOD” Wow! I am in tears. This is unbelievable! This reminds me of another great and ancient man of God named Job: “And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered MY SERVANT JOB, THAT THERE IS NONE LIKE HIM IN THE EARTH, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?” – Job 1:8. Wow! To have that said of you by the Creator of the universe!
“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” – Matthew 25:21
Let us live for the approval of our God with the few things God has given us to be faithful with. This is so much easier said then done but maybe this is encouraging to someone. To continue in Hebrews 11:32-40:
“And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: AND OTHERS WERE TORTURED, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: and others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: they were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (OF WHOM THE WORLD WAS NOT WORTHY:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: GOD HAVING PROVIDED SOME BETTER THING FOR US, THAT THEY WITHOUT US SHOULD NOT BE MADE PERFECT.”
This reminds me of when God said that Adam should not be alone and so he made Eve and the two became one. Here, all the saints that have gone before us are not made perfect without us. You and we are not alone even when we do feel alone at times in this world that is seeming to get farther and farther away from her Creator everyday (at least in America but maybe not in other areas of the world and there are some good signs lately even in America!). But none the less we are not made perfect without each other!
Now on to Hebrews 12:1-4:
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.”
Which brings us full circle back to Psalms 51 which all the people of God can relate with to some degree or other (sin, forgiveness and struggle against it).
Psalm 51:1-19
“[1] Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: According unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. [2] Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. [3] For I acknowledge my transgressions: And my sin is ever before me. [4] Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: That thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. [5] Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me. [6] Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: And in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. [7] Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. [8] Make me to hear joy and gladness; That the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. [9] Hide thy face from my sins, And blot out all mine iniquities. [10] Create in me a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within me. [11] Cast me not away from thy presence; And take not thy holy spirit from me. [12] Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; And uphold me with thy free spirit. [13] Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; And sinners shall be converted unto thee. [14] Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: And my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. [15] O Lord, open thou my lips; And my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. [16] For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: Thou delightest not in burnt offering. [17] The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: A broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. [18] Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: Build thou the walls of Jerusalem. [19] Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: Then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.”
Do you relate? Do you need God’s forgiveness? Jesus is the author and finisher of this faith! Trust Jesus. Believe what He did on the cross for you was for you! And watch Him “Restore unto you the the joy of God’s salvation”!
”But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8
Maybe it’s high time for you to recognize His love for you and respond by believing Him by taking Him at His word(s)! Jesus Christ the same today, yesterday and forevermore.
God bless 🙌
P.S. – Matthew 1:21 and 1 Timothy 1:15!!!! He’s your man! John 14:6, John 15:13, John 13:32,33 etc etc etc. Read it all! It’s all good! He is Worthy to be called your God! None of the others are! King David knew this:
”While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.” – Matthew 22:41-46
Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith! Never a man speak like this man! Nor lived, nor died, nor yet still lives forevermore!
”And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” – 1 Timothy 3:16
