PBS and Bill Nye the Science Guy accidentally highlighted a Young Earth Creationist argument.

“At the 1:04:53 mark in the documentary, Bill Nye and climatologist Dr. James White are examining a recently extracted Greenland ice-core section.1 Bill Nye notices a dark band of tephra within the ice and asks if it represents a volcanic eruption. Although Dr. White does not respond, it is obvious from the following conversation that the answer is “yes.” White states that this ice is about 27,000 years old. Nye then notes that the tephra layer, which appears to be unbroken, with no gaps, represents a time span of 15 to 17 years. Although Nye does not explicitly explain his reasoning, his quick mental calculation is based on the assumption that the nearby visible bands in the ice represent annual layers. Since he estimated the tephra layer to be about 15 to 17 times thicker than the nearby “annual” layers, the tephra should represent 15 to 17 years. Nye is obviously very surprised that fallout from a volcanic eruption would last that long, so he asks, “Is that possible?” White does nothing to indicate that Nye’s mental calculation is in error, and he responds that it most certainly is possible.

Does Dr. White say this because fifteen years of continuous volcanic fallout is genuinely plausible, or because he has seen other such thick tephra layers within the ice cores? The answer would seem to be the latter. An explosive volcanic eruption lasting for more than a decade truly stretches belief—no one in recorded history has ever documented an explosive volcanic eruption that lasted this long!”

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” – Before sin it was paradise, and all is considered by God Himself “very good”. And we are still surrounded by this goodness. BUT BUT BUT since SIN entered the world then so did death and God’s designed curse and consequence and just judgment for such sin (Romans 5:12, Genesis 3, and back to Romans 8:20) and thus we are surrounded by His designed curse and judgment, also.

So, if the Scriptural account is true, we should see amazing engineering of our Creator in the Universe that He has created but also, the consequences of sin and the curse in His Universe.

We must see the world as He sees it (“Man cannot live on bread alone but every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God” – Jesus). We must see both to understand the dichotomy we see in the world and flee to the Savior by trusting in Him for salvation from our own sins. God can not lie the Bible says cause God’s is truth and God cannot let evil go unpunished because God is just. His nature will not let sin go unatoned for. We must trust in Jesus or God cannot forgive us. Jesus atones for sin!

Forgiveness without atonement is contrary to God’s just nature and God has provided we only need to believe. There are more questions that need to be answered but hopefully knowing that God is just, and He must and will deal with everybody’s sins in condemnation or on the Cross! Jesus paid the just price for all you and I’s sinning! This is indeed good news.

“I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.” -Jesus John 8:24

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.” – Jesus Matthew 1:21

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” – Jesus John 10:27,28

“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” – Jesus John 10:11

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” – Jesus John 10:13

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8

Our sins need to be atoned for and Jesus has done this for you. You need to believe in Him. You want people to believe in you. Please your God by believing in Him!
