Thou hast the words of eternal life

No man gets instruction from that which tends to destruction. No man receives illumination from a quarter where all is darkness.

Tertullian. 1885. “The Prescription against Heretics.” In Latin Christianity: Its Founder, Tertullian, edited by Alexander Roberts, James Donaldson, and A. Cleveland Coxe, translated by Peter Holmes, 3:249. The Ante-Nicene Fathers. Buffalo, NY: Christian Literature Company.

“From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? THOU HAST THE WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.” – John 6:66-69

“The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.” – John 4:25-26

“And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.” – Mark 1:22

“The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.” – John 7:46

“I am the way the truth and the life…” “Heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall never pass away.” “…All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” “…ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” – Jesus
