Shall He Be Great

“Herod wanted to know “where the Messiah was to be born.” and Micah’s prophecy, given around seven centuries before this event, gave him the answer: “In Bethlehem in Judea.” Micah’s prophecy also predicted of the Messiah that “He would be great to the ends of the earth” (Micah 5:4 NASB). Who is known throughout the world more than Jesus Christ? At the very least, Jesus is one of the most famous persons in all of human history. There is no real reason that a poor Jewish man, born in a cave in Bethlehem, should have been known by anyone outside of his own village and his own time. And yet, knowledge of Jesus has continued to spread throughout the world for the past two thousand years. Billions of people from all nations of the world have come to believe in Jesus as their Messiah. His followers still visit the cave where He was born more than two thousand years ago. In the scope of human history, who else was born in Bethlehem of Judea and is known “to the ends of the earth”? Micah’s eighth-century-BC prophecy proved correct.” – Joel Kramer from “Where God Came Down”! – Joel Kramer from his book “Where God Came Down” (check it out where ever you buy books).

Also, see Isaiah 42:1-6, 49:1-6, 52:13-53:1-12 for more corroboration and predictions that are consistent with Micah. There is only one dude that fits the bill and He has been fitting the bill 2000 years and running.

If Micah 5:5 confuses you as it did me here are some thoughts on this:

This confused me at first as it seemed to put this one who would be great unto the ends of the earth in the times of Assyria who are dead and gone. I read 2 commentaries and they made some sense of this but then I was thinking more along the lines of this promise of the Messiah who will be great unto the ends of the earth “shall be the peace”. So, the Messiah “Whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting” (Micah 5:2, John 8:58, John 1:1-3,14) (speaking of His preexisting before being born in Bethlehem which would then be His existence also in Micah’s day with Assyria) will deliver them from the Assyrian and will be born in Bethlehem in the future! I could be wrong but it seems to harmonize this for me for now. Also, this promise of Messiah to come assures them that God will see them thru this Assyrian enemy and all that is to come even their exile in Micah 5:7-8.

“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” – Ephesians 3:14–21

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” – Jesus Matthew 24:35

Trust Jesus over the heavens and the earth and everything in it including yourself! Don’t let yourself get in the away!

“…the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” – 1 John 2:17
