2 minute reading from Spurgeon’s sermon Portraits of Christ.

By God’s grace, thru the gospel and by His Spirit, we can be like our Master and loving Savior Jesus Christ and care for other’s souls with genuineness!

My favorite part of this reading that made me want to read it:

“We can never be like the Master, till not only in public BUT IN PRIVATE we are God’s own…”

Do we make time for God in our alone times (Luke 5:16)? Do we read His Word written for us to be read at all times public and private (Psalm 1:2)? Do we pray not only for others in public but also for others in private? (The Psalms, Matthew 6:6)

Maybe this is what Paul (arguably the greatest missionary/evangelist of all time) did so that he could say things like this:

“I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, that I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:”
Romans 9:1‭-‬3

Sure, Paul new God would reward him for his work as our faithful God does (2 Tim 4:6-8) but here in Romans 9:1-3 he would be willing to give all his rewards up and be damned so that others would be saved. That is the love he had for those he was sharing the gospel with!!!! Paul was just following Christ and we called to follow to (1 Corinthians 11:1).

Are we honestly this concerned for those we love that we are willing to swap heaven and hell for the sake of our loved one’s? I don’t know if I’m there yet but I strive to care this much as this is the Godly model lived out by many Christians in the past (starting with the Father’s Love foretold to send the Son who was one with the Father’s Love to the cross and from the grave and then into the hearts of men like Paul and spreading ever since via the Holy Spirit of God John 16:7) and since Christ lives in me I will be able to as I am more conformed to the image of Christ daily and am privately/publicly walking with God after the Gospel has taken root in my heart and by its power (Holy Spirit power!)

Jesus said “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” – John 15:13

Let us pray to have that same conscience Paul had for those whom he loved for those around us. It is the highest calling to be willing to swap eternal destinies for those we love. That’s the model of the Biblical evangelist/missionary to be this concerned for the eternal destinies of those whom we love but knowing God is sovereign as the rest of Romans 9 seems to indicate to keep us stable in all this but let us not forget the mindset of love!

God bless and remember

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” KJV

“But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us, by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” AMP

He is all the Love and God we need.
